You “heard” that one right! I have been my own barber since high school.
I’m comfortable with both cutting and thinning shears, although I’ve obtained professional results mainly with clippers. My setup is composed out of three mirrors, two foldable lateral ones, and a backlit central one. In the past, I’ve only used a desk-placed A4-sized mirror, and another handheld one to see the back of my neckline.
I’ve gotten good enough that I managed to shave my head with a shavette once. (Actually two of them.) And I had some fun trying out personal care products. As a result, I can wholeheartedly recommend Michelle Wong’s Lab Muffin guides.
If you can spare 10 minutes of your time, read the children’s book My Dad Is Just A Barber by Donald Conley. It has changed my perspective on work.
